Lilyisthatyou: Live at the Drake Underground

Photography, writing, and editing by Kian Gannon

October 26th marked Lilyisthatyou’s first headlined show, hosted by Live Nation at the Drake Underground. Lily has recently performed at festivals such as ACL Music Fest and is scheduled to perform alongside acts like Arctic Monkeys, My Chemical Romance, and Miley Cyrus at Corona Capital this November. With that being said, Lily had yet to tour or have any headlined shows during her rise in popularity in the past few years.

Doors opened at 7pm and the Drake was packed shortly after. Two DJ’s started off the night and build the anticipation in the room. At around 9pm Lily started her set with a projector displaying a written piece, along with audio spoken by Lily herself. This short introduction spoke with purpose and explained to the crowd her upbringing in Toronto and how important this show was to her. It was truly a heartwarming and emotional moment for everyone in the crowd and Lily as well. To begin her first headlined show in her hometown was something special, and the way everything was presented was really impressive. Once the video stopped, the crowd became louder than ever, the screen lifted and Lily came out on stage.

Throughout her entire performance Lily was engaged with her fans and came as close to them as she could. The energy in the room was through the roof and her appreciation for this show was obvious. There were many moments throughout the night where she took the time to speak with her fans and have an open conversation about her highs and lows. Lily made sure that every fan leaving her show, new or old, reminded themselves that they’re important and that they should be proud of who they are.

Moving into her setlist, Lily played some of her biggest hits along with some unreleased music and even a cover. Songs including “FMRN”, “Do I make you nervous?”, “Moderation”, “Purity”, “All About Me”, and “Competition” had the crowd singing back to her all night. If it wasn’t already known, Lily definitely showed how talented, passionate, and special she is throughout her performance.

I want to thank Lily, her management team: Marvin and Rafa, Live Nation, and the Drake Underground for being so responsive, helpful, and passionate about working with us to document this show. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for Lily and you should be too.
